About Us

The Higher Baptist Theological Seminary in Warsaw (Wyższe Baptystyczne Seminarium Teologiczne w Warszawie; www.wbst.edu.pl ) is a school of the Baptist Church in Poland authorized to award bachelor’s degrees in theology.

International Theological College is the name of our bachelor’s program, which we offer in English outside Poland, with the possibility of translation into another language.

International Theological Collge Tanzania is a joint program that our school runs with Africa Inland Church Tanzania, our wonderful and trusted partner. We offer a 4-year theological course leading to a bachelor’s degree. We offer it in a part-time program, with 5 week-long meetings a year, providing translation into Swahili. Learning takes place on three campuses: Mwanza, Geita and Bunda. Next accademic year we will open the fourth one in Dar Es Salaam.

We want to see leaders of churches and societies in East Africa being empowered to be credible and successful in Christ’ Kingdom ministry. Therefore, our motto is to be blessed so that we can bless each other!

Welcome, become our student!

Our History

The Higher Baptist Theological Seminary is based on over 100 years of heritage of teaching theology within the Baptist Church in Poland, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025.

International Theological College Tanzania, which is our English-language studies project was created in 2019. In 2020, we were invited to Tanzania by the Archbishop of the Africa Inland Church, Mussa Masanja Magwesela. In 2020-2023, we conducted the first full cycle of teaching at Geita, which on the September the 8th was successfully completed by 29 students.

In the fall of 2023, we started our program in two new places: Mwanza and Bunda, continuing it in Geita.

We are currently planning to start our studies in Dar Es Salaam as well.

We plan to start new recruitment in the fall of 2024.

Our Program

Requirements

Our program is based on the guidelines of the Seminary’s Scientific Council, which determine the minimum program required to be implemented, namely:

– a minimum of 650 lecture hours over the entire three-year program;

– substantive division of classes according to the following key:

(1) biblical studies: at least 1/3 (33%) of the total number of classes;

(2) systematic theology: not less than 1/4 (25%) of the total number of classes;

(3) practical theology: not less than 1/4 (25%) of the total number of classes;

(4) Church history and auxiliary sciences: not less than 15% of the total number of classes.

Additionally, it is required to prepare and defend a bachelor’s thesis.

Although the program is still in a pioneering phase, subject to changes in time and teaching mode, this minimum is included in the taught program.

We are currently working on translating these requirements into the widely adopted ETCS system, according to which our program should last 180 hours. Although the verification process is not yet complete, our program appears to meet these requirements, based on 250 hours of lectures per year, writing final essays, reading requirements and the requirement to write a bachelor’s thesis.

Teaching mode

The teaching mode may still change. Its main assumption is a way of teaching that allows pastors and other church leaders to complete their education without having to leave the ministry. This assumption will not change within the bachelor’s program. We believe that serving church leaders are the group most in need of empowerment.

Currently, the program is based on a 4-year system. Each year consists of 3 semesters. Semester 1 and 3 consists of two weekly meetings – one on campus, the other online (the option to participate in online lectures on campus is also available). Semester 2 consists of one on-campus meeting.

Attendance at meetings, both on campus and online, is mandatory. Failure to attend one of the meetings means that you will have to repeat the year.

Fees

A year of studies costs 400,000 TSH. This fee can be paid in monthly installments or together with three sessions or once a year to the account:
